The Rev. Carol Wade

Washington, D.C.

As Canon Precentor at Washington National Cathedral, with creative and administrative oversight of 1800 services each year, Carol created worship for many high profile services on behalf of The Episcopal Church and our nation, including the Investiture of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, and The Inaugural Service for President Obama, while also advocating for the compelling social justice issues of our day. As well as a serving as a pastor and preacher to the Cathedral’s burgeoning congregation of 800+, Carol was chaplain to the House of Bishops, and responsible for the vision and implementation of worship at the 76th General Convention in Anaheim.

Carol’s academic work in religion and the arts at Yale University, coupled with her vocation as professional actor and classical dancer in New York and Los Angeles prior to ordination, continue to deeply inform her exercise of ordained leadership. As one of the “go-to” voices for creating vital church, Carol is currently co-authoring a three-volume worship companion to the award-winning Westminster/John Knox Feasting on the Word series, for which she served as contributing writer.
